Daily accountability.
People tend to start a vision for their lives in business and as we’ve all seen, things can get chaotic and side track those visions. We push the hard things off thinking we have time to get them done. We lie to ourselves at times that we did the best we can, just so we can justify being behind or not obtaining our vision.
Throughout the years, I’ve trained multiple dozens of agents, I’ve seen the ones that achieved their vision versus the ones that didn’t. Both groups had the same material. Many succeed but too many give up or fall behind. Then it became clear why, the ones that achieved their vision, stayed focused. They did the most important things they needed to do versus the small tedious tasks that fill a day. The second thing they did was check in with me often.
That had to be it… they wanted to be held accountable before things got too out of control to catch up. I discovered that some agents never had to be completely accountable for themselves. They had 9-5 jobs where someone monitored them and when they were off at 5 o'clock they didn’t have to worry beyond that. They didn’t have to worry about shaping their own future. Fast forward and they become self-employed, it’s a whole new world that has never been explained to them.
This is where things get real for the self employed. It's crucial to figure out the most important things that need to be done each day to get you to your vision. It's important that in the beginning, middle and end of the day, you stay on point and hold yourself accountable in doing the things that mean the most towards your vision.
Remember often the harder things, things that take you out of your comfort zone, are the things that yield the biggest and most important results. Holding yourself accountable isn’t as easy as you’d think. However, if you do, you most likely won’t lie to yourself, you’ll try harder if you promise yourself and you’ll challenge yourself. At the end of the day when you look back on your day you’ll know where you succeeded or fell short. By doing this, it helps you not get behind, to the point you can’t catch up.
How do you become a person that holds themselves accountable? That takes discipline and repetition. It will become a pattern that you will master in time. But it’s a daily practice.
Whichever technique or tool you use, it comes down to you, and wanting to achieve your goal so much that you will do what it takes daily and stay ahead of the goal. It takes repetition and practice. So, start by knowing your vision and what needs to be done to achieve it. Then break down your day to focus on the number one thing you need to get done that day. Figure out the top three things you need to do to get the number one thing done.
Check in with yourself at least 3 times a day to ask yourself and see if you are being accountable. Once this becomes a habit you will see beautiful things happen in your business life and personal life!
This is how the Real Estate Tactical Planner came to creation. I saw what my agents needed but it wasn’t always realistic to be completely accessible and I couldn’t always be there for all of them checking in all day, every day, and making sure their most important tasks would get done. So, instead I created an accountability tool, so that Real Estate Agents can track their own progress and use the suggestions to stay on goal to reach their vision. If they have a team that they work with, their team leader can receive reports of their goals, efforts, and actions. Together they can achieve more and hold one another accountable. If you don’t work with a team, or you just want more community and accountability, you can join our Facebook group too. My passion at this time in my career is to see every agent succeed, to break the statistics that exist for failure and help people thrive, and feel secure in their success as a Real Estate Agent.
